Welcome to Squamish
This picturesque community is situated in the beautiful "Sea to Sky" corridor, together with the neighbouring communities of Furry Creek, Britannia Beach, Whistler and Pemberton.
Just 67 km north of downtown Vancouver, Squamish is close enough to the city yet enjoys the peaceful, scenic splendour of the rugged outdoors.
Originally reached only by the sea, the first European to visit the Squamish region was Captain George Vancouver, when he traded with the Coast Salish in 1792. The Coast Salish tribe had several villages on the river banks and shores of Howe Sound.
The choice natural setting of Squamish leads to outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities enjoyed by both locals and tens of thousands of visitors annually. The mountains, ocean, and lakes lend themselves to adventurous activites such as rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, windsurfing and rafting.
